A destination worth the flight.
Vilnius swings hard between seasons. Eleven complete years of daily records (2015-2025) show January averaging -4.8C with frozen Vilnia riverbanks, while July peaks near 22C with cathedral-square terraces open until midnight. Spring melts fast in April, autumn drops sharply after mid-October, and the shoulder windows are narrower than travelers expect.
May, June, and September form the strongest window. May averages 14C with lilacs blooming across Bernardine Gardens and daylight stretching past 21:00. June brings the Baltic sun without July's brief thunderstorms, and September holds 15C with amber-market weekends still running before rains settle in. Locals will tell you Uzupis gallery openings cluster in these months for a reason.
Skip January and February unless the Christmas market (November 26 to January 7) is the reason you booked. Post-holiday Vilnius plunges to -5C with icy Gedimino Avenue sidewalks, short 8-hour days, and half the outdoor cafes shuttered. February is statistically the coldest with wind-chill dropping below -15C on a third of days.
For 2026 planning, book May flights by February since Ryanair pricing spikes once Eurovision-adjacent traffic hits. September remains the value month with hotels 30 percent below July rates.
