The city
§ I
A destination worth the flight.

Ljubljana sits at the humid-continental and subtropical hinge, giving it warmer summers than most Central European capitals of similar latitude. Eleven complete years (2015-2025) show January averaging 0C with morning fog in the Ljubljanica basin, July peaking at 22C with castle-hill terrace weather until 22:00. Rainfall is heavier than Vienna's, concentrated in April and October.

May, June, and September carry the strongest calendar. April brings Tivoli Park's cherry blossom peak in the second and third weeks — often missed by travelers who wait for May. May averages 16C with the Ljubljanica riverside terraces at full occupancy, June sits at 20C with open-air Kino Siska screenings, and September holds 17C with vineyard events in Vipava Valley an hour west.

January and November are the months to skip. January averages 0C with the year's densest fog — the castle disappears for 3-4 days at a time. November brings 5C with 15 rain days and Preseren Square feeling smaller than usual. The Fairy Tale Christmas market (late November to early January) is the exception that makes December worth booking.

For 2026, book May by early March to catch Ryanair Trieste-Ljubljana routing. September remains 20 percent cheaper than June with better wine-harvest access.

§ IV

Flight prices, month by month.

Estimated round-trip fares from London, based on a 7-day stay. Rule-of-thumb pricing — the cheapest windows tend to be the shoulder months, so a shift of a fortnight can pay for a hotel.

★ January looks like the cheapest month for flights to Ljubljana — often £81 less than the peak. Fares refresh daily; live prices below.
