A destination worth the flight.
Kitzbuhel's lower Tyrolean altitude at 762 m produces a milder Alpine climate than St Moritz or Val d'Isere. Eleven complete years (2015-2025) show January averaging -3C with reliable town-level snow but ski conditions depending heavily on the Hahnenkamm and Kitzbuheler Horn upper stations, July at 18C for hiking. Ski season runs late November to early April.
January, February, and July are the strongest months. January brings the Hahnenkamm downhill race in the third or fourth weekend — the Streif is the world's most-watched ski race, drawing 100,000 spectators and turning Kitzbuhel into World Cup central. February holds peak Tyrolean snow with the widest run selection. July sits at 18C with Kitzbuheler Horn hiking, Schwarzsee swimming, and 3 Berge Skitour off-season walking routes at their best conditions.
May and November are the closure months. May sees ski lifts shut early in the month, hiking trails still muddy on shaded aspects, and Vorderstadt shops running reduced hours. November brings pre-season quiet with lifts still closed and half the Kitzbuhel Country Club amenities on maintenance schedule.
For 2026, book Hahnenkamm race weekend (January 23-25 provisional) by August 2025 — hotels sell out first among Tyrolean resorts. July remains the year's best hiking value with Kitzbuhel Alpine Rally programming in the second half of the month.

Flight prices, month by month.
Estimated round-trip fares from London, based on a 7-day stay. Rule-of-thumb pricing — the cheapest windows tend to be the shoulder months, so a shift of a fortnight can pay for a hotel.
