A destination worth the flight.

The best time to visit Death Valley in 2026 is March through May and September. These months offer comfortable temperatures ranging from 16–27°C (61–81°F), compared to the annual average high of 22.3°C (72°F). With only 205 mm of annual rainfall and an average of 11.2 hours of daily sunshine, Death Valley is exceptionally dry year-round, but spring and early fall provide the most pleasant conditions for exploring the park's otherworldly landscape.

March and April bring mild daytime temperatures ideal for hiking, while May offers slightly warmer conditions perfect for early-morning adventures. September marks the transition from summer heat, with temperatures dropping back into comfortable ranges as the intense desert heat begins to fade. Each month provides excellent visibility and minimal chance of precipitation, making them equally viable for most visitors—your choice depends on whether you prefer cooler spring conditions or the slightly warmer early-fall season.

Avoid visiting during summer months (June through August) when temperatures soar well above 40°C (104°F), making outdoor exploration dangerous and physically demanding. Winter months (December through February) can be cold and occasionally see rare rainfall, though they're far less extreme than summer. For 2026, book accommodations early if traveling in March or April, as these remain the most popular months for Death Valley tourism.
