Here's the thing about Cairo that surprises most first-timers: it barely rains. Ever. We're talking 32mm annually — you could literally count the rainy days on one hand. So when people ask me about the "best" time to visit, it's not about dodging downpours. It's about heat, crowds, and whether you can actually enjoy walking around the Egyptian Museum without sweating through your shirt in the first five minutes. February, March, April, and November are your sweet spot — highs hover around 25–28°C (77–82°F), the air feels almost crisp in the mornings, and you won't feel like you're being slowly roasted alive.

Each of these months has its own personality. February and March are when Cairo feels most alive — locals are out, prices haven't spiked yet, and the light is perfect (that golden-hour thing happens early). April is the tail end of this window; still good, but heat starts creeping in and some travelers skip ahead. November is the comeback month — summer tourists have cleared out, temperatures drop back down to livable, and you get that same crisp morning feel as spring. If you're into crowds and energy, lean spring. If you want breathing room and lower hotel rates, November's your month.

Avoid July and August entirely. We're talking 35–38°C (95–100°F) sustained heat, the kind that makes even air-conditioned museums feel like a refuge. Businesses run on skeleton crews (locals flee Cairo if they can), and the humidity off the Nile makes everything feel heavier. It's not just uncomfortable — it's genuinely dangerous if you're not used to extreme heat. Even June, September, and October sit in that awkward 30–33°C (86–91°F) range where you're constantly fighting the temperature instead of enjoying the city.

2026 doesn't look dramatically different from the historical pattern, but if you've read anything about Cairo's air quality or urban heat islands, know that the city has been getting hotter over the past decade. Winter months are still the refuge they've always been, but spring arrives a touch earlier each year. Plan accordingly — book those February and March reservations soon, because everyone else is figuring this out too.
