Even in peak season, you're looking at highs around 23–25°C (73–77°F) — pleasant and walkable, but not baking. That's actually Berlin's secret weapon. May through August is when the city genuinely comes alive, but each month feels completely different, and the difference matters for how you experience the place.

May is the goldilocks month — gardens explode overnight, the Biergärten fill up with locals rather than tour groups, and the light lingers until nearly 9pm. By June, you're into the real summer swing: highs push toward the mid-20s°C (upper 70s°F), and the city hosts its major street festivals and outdoor cinema season. July and August both hit similar temperatures (around 24–25°C / 75–77°F), but July draws the thickest crowds and highest prices, while August sees Berliners themselves leave town, making it quieter but also oddly lonelier. You get roughly 7–8 hours of actual sunshine daily during these months, which in a city built on lakes and parks, means constant activity on the water and in green spaces.

The months to genuinely avoid? December through February. Winter isn't brutal — highs hover around 3–4°C (37–39°F) — but it's grey, wet, and feels perpetually damp. The city doesn't shut down, but many outdoor attractions close, and that famous Berlin energy gets bottled up indoors. March and April are unpredictable: sometimes glorious, sometimes still sodden. If you hate unpredictability, skip them.

Looking ahead to 2026: Berlin's climate is warming slightly faster than the European average, so expect May to feel more like the old June, and late August to stretch warmer than historical norms. Annual rainfall sits around 604mm (24 inches) — modest compared to other European capitals — but it's spread unevenly, with May and June being the wettest months of the warm season. Pack a light rain shell even in summer.
